We use only silver solder with water soluble flux and food grade silver brazing to construct this still. It is built using the same methods that distillers have used to build their stills. The distiller column is 2" diameter copper.
Our stills are designed to be the best with the natural advantages of a copper column and condenser. The 2" ferrule on the bottom of the unit allows the column to be clamped onto any beer keg or commercially available kettle. The condenser is fully adjustable and detachable for cleaning and storage. This distiller can be hooked up to a garden hose or a submersible pump, which can be used for a recirculating cooling system if a garden hose is not an option.
OUR QUALITY CONTROL COMMITMENT TO YOU: Each and every one of Hi Proof Products hand-crafted copper stills are designed, machined, and hand-crafted in the USA by Hi Proof Products. Each is then pressurized and checked for leaks. They are then flushed before we run flow-rate tests to be sure each and every condenser performs as it was intended. Hi Proof Products guarantees this hand-crafted copper pot still for 12-months against manufacturing defects.
WHY WE USE COPPER TO CONSTRUCT OUR STILLS:
We hand-craft this copper still column and condenser from copper pipe because copper is far more efficient for conducting heat than it's stainless steel counterpart. This in itself allows for better control and stability and improves the outcome of the final distillation in terms of flavor. Stills without copper incorporated in their construction either in the in the column, plates, or condenser are thought to put out undesirable spirits.
Copper stills continually sacrifice themselves on a molecular level. The copper itself reacts with the foul tasting sulphides, present in the mash which is there as a natural part of the grains. Sulphides are released as the yeast goes to work. Copper in the still binds with hydrogen sulfide and other acids and oils to eliminate rotten-egg, skunky smells from the spirits.
Copper also reduces bacterial contamination which is the leading reason why it is also currently used for residential and commercial water piping. Copper has been used to make stills since ancient times and as successive generations have found it remains the best option thanks to its unique properties and natural advantages in the distilling process. For superior results, Hi Proof Products hand-crafts copper like the master distillers do.
