Please note that although we refer to our home distillers as moonshine stills, the units have many uses other than just making moonshine such as distillation of water, essential oils, vinegar, and fuel alcohol. Distillation itself is simply the process of boiling a substance that is comprised of different components, or fractions. Each of these fractions boils at a different temperature, therefore allowing you to separate them in order to isolate and collect a particular fraction. Alcohol distillation is the process of separating ethanol from water, and there is actually less methanol in distilled spirits than in fruit juice or wine. We also encourage you to engage in this practice safely and recommend using an electric heating element as opposed to an open flame.
